The Blog of Michael Lee Mitchell Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 26, 2025

This Privacy Policy describes how I (the owner of this blog) use and protect any information that you give me when you visit blog.michaelleemitchell.net (and michaelleemitchell.net). This is a personal blog where I share my opinions, reviews, and views on a variety of subjects; these opinions are mine alone and are subject to change as I see fit.

By continuing to use this site, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information I Collect (Via Third-Party Analytics)

I use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Tinylytics to help me understand how visitors engage with my blog. These tools collect general, aggregated, and non-personally identifiable statistics about website traffic. The type of information collected by these analytics services typically includes:

  • Usage Data: Pages viewed, time spent on pages, scrolling activity, clicks, referral sources, and the path you take through my blog.
  • Device and Browser Information: Type of device (e.g., mobile, desktop), operating system, browser type, and user agent string (truncated for privacy by Tinylytics).
  • Approximate Location Data: Derived from IP addresses to provide general geographical insights (country level only), but not specific addresses.

This data is collected to help me understand visitor behavior, improve my content, and analyze traffic patterns, specifically to differentiate between legitimate human readers and automated bot activity touching the content. I do not collect or store any personal data that would directly identify you individually, such as your name, email address, or precise IP address in a personally identifiable format within my analytics, and as such, I can't delete anything as there is nothing for me to delete.

2. How Information is Collected

  • Google Analytics: Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies (small data files placed on your device) to collect this information. These pseudonymous identifiers allow Google Analytics to recognize repeat visitors and track their behavior on my site without linking it directly to your personal identity in my reports.
  • Tinylytics: Tinylytics uses a privacy-first approach that involves anonymization and hash generation (one-way encryption with a rotating salt). It does not use cookies or local storage for visitor analytics tracking. Instead, it generates unique hits through this hashing process based on aggregated and anonymized request data, which resets daily. This ensures visitor privacy by not storing personal data or persistent identifiers. Tinylytics's data centers are located in Europe, ensuring data never leaves the EU.

3. Data Deletion Requests

As I do not personally collect or control individual user data within Google Analytics or Tinylytics in a way that allows me to identify and delete specific browse histories, I am unable to fulfill requests for individual data deletion directly from my analytics records. These services use pseudonymous identifiers (like cookies for Google Analytics, or rotating hashes for Tinylytics) that are not linked to your personal identity in my reporting.

4. How to Control Your Information / Opt-Out

  • Google Analytics: If you wish to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits to any website, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on provided by Google.
  • Tinylytics: Due to Tinylytics's design principles of not using cookies or storing personal data for visitor analytics, a traditional opt-out add-on like Google's is not applicable. Its unique hit tracking is built around privacy-first processing, with all potentially identifying information stripped or truncated before processing.

5. Third-Party Links and Policies

My blog may contain links to other websites. I am not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such other websites. I encourage my users to be aware when they leave my blog and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.
